This 1-day navigation course is unique. Not only will you learn the fundamentals of using a map and compass, you will also be introduced to natural navigation.

 

While hitchhiking alone to the other side of the world, I picked up signs in the environment such as the sun, the wind, the trees, plant life and even puddles. Utilising these signs is not only a lot of fun and very rewarding, it adds another dimension to your adventures.

This course is run in the Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales and on Dartmoor.

• Reading contour lines

• Reading other features

• Measuring distances

• Grid references

• Using a compass

• Map types

• Triangulating your position

• Responding to errors

• Emergencies

• Using trees

• Using wind direction

• Using plant life

• Using the sun and stars

• Using puddles

Group sizes are currently limited to 6 people. The price per person is £99.99. A deposit of £20 is needed to secure your place and the full amount is due two weeks before the date booked. We will begin at 09:15 and be finished by 16:00.

 

All maps and compasses are provided free of charge. All you need to bring is sensible footwear, a waterproof jacket and a warm layer.
